Tofu Jun (Tofu Pan Fried)

    This is a great side dish - fried crispy tofu topped with a spicy sauce.

    Serves: 2 

    • 1 500g (14 oz) pack of firm Tofu
    • 1 teaspoon oil
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons (30ml) soya sauce
    • 1 tablespoon (15ml) water
    • ½ teaspoon Korean red pepper powder
    • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
    • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
    • Pinch of black pepper
    • 2 green onions, chopped
    • Pinch of Korean shredded red pepper

    1. Cut the tofu into about 1cm (.25 inch) thick slices and sprinkle with salt.
    2. Pan fry the tofu with oil until golden brown on both side.
    3. In a small bowl, mix the soya sauce, water, red pepper powder, sesame seeds, sesame oil, black pepper and chopped green onions and spread over the pan fried Tofu.
    4. Sprinkle the shredded red pepper on the top.

    This recipe is SO simple. I'm a big fan of tofu and this is one easy way to make it. I always have tofu left over after I made miso soup so this recipe is perfect for using up the remaining tofu. It's so simple that I sometimes make it at work for lunch!  -  26 Aug 2010
