    About this recipe: My German grandmother used to make these every Christmas. She said using small eggs was a must.

    Makes: 36 

    • 3 small eggs
    • 1 cup caster sugar
    • 280g plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds

    1. Preheat oven to 180C. Lightly grease a baking tray.
    2. Beat eggs and sugar for 15 minutes. Stir in the flour sifted with baking powder and cream of tartar and add fennel seeds. Mix well.
    3. Drop by teaspoonfuls on to baking tray and bake for 15 minutes. Cool on a rack.
