Kongjaban (Stewed black beans)

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 cup dried black beans
    • 2 cups (500ml) water
    • 3 tablespoons (45ml) soya sauce
    • 5 tablespoons caster sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
    • ½ teaspoon sesame oil

    1. Clean the black beans and cook in a pressure cooker with 2 cups (500ml) water for 20 minutes over the medium heat and drain in a colander.
    2. Combine soya sauce, sugar and salt in a medium pot. Cook until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Add the black beans and cook another 7 minutes and turn off the heat. Add the sesame seeds and sesame oil and mix well.
