About this recipe:This is a savoury south Indian snack made with dhal that is shaped like a doughnut. It is popularly served during the festive holidays and also great for tea time. Vadai can be eaten by themselves or accompanied with coconut chutney or sambhar.

Clean the dhal and drain. Place in blender and add a little water and blend until the dhal becomes a thick paste.
Mix the rest of the ingredients with the paste and set aside for 5 minutes. Heat oil for deep frying until hot. Drop spoonfuls of the paste into hot oil and fry until it is brown and crispy. Serve hot.
