    Cabbage cooked with small prawns in white coconut gravy to be eaten with rice. This dish comes from Perlis, the smallest state in Penisular Malaysia.

    Serves: 4 

    • 300g cabbage, cut into 2cm pieces
    • 3 cups (750ml) coconut milk
    • 2 cups (500ml) water
    • 300g small prawns, shelled and deveined
    • 5 red chillies, sliced
    • 6 shallots, sliced
    • 1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
    • Salt and white pepper to taste
    • 1 spring onion, chopped

    1. Put coconut milk and water in a pan and add the shallots, garlic and red chillies and bring to a boil.
    2. Reduce heat, add cabbage and simmer until cabbage is soft. When the cabbage is soft, add the prawns, stir and check for seasonings. Put salt and pepper to taste.
    3. Simmer and cook until it starts to boil. Remove from heat and add the chopped springs onions and serve.

    Made this last night per friend's suggestion. I didn't have prawns so I used small anchovies. My family said to make sure I put this on rotation.  -  17 Dec 2015
