Nasi Kunyit

About this recipe: This glutinous yellow rice is usually served at Malay festive occasions such as weddings, Eid or ceremonies. Serve with curries, korma dish or rendang.

Ingredients

Serves: 8 

  • 2 cups glutinous rice
  • 2 tablespoon tumeric powder
  • 1 piece asam gelugor
  • 2 pandan leaves, tie into a knot
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar to taste

  1. Wash the rice and soak in a bowl of water with the tumeric powder and asam gelugor for at least 3 hours. Rinse the rice and place in steamer with the pandan leaves, asam gelugor and steam over boiling water for about 20 minutes.
  2. Remove the rice from steamer and place in large bowl. Mix in the coconut milk, salt and sugar to taste. Mix well and return the rice back to steamer and steam until rice is fully cooked.
