About this recipe: A cool well poured pint of Guinness is said to taste of chocolate, so there's no better combination than Guinness and chocolate cake.


Serves: 8 

  • 250ml Guinness
  • 250g butter
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 400g caster sugar
  • Small tub of sour cream or creme fraiche
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 275g plain flour
  • 1 tbsp bicarbonate of soda

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:55min 

  1. Heat the Guinness, butter, chocolate and sugar together. Mix in the eggs and sour cream.
  2. Add in the flour and bicarbonate of soda. Beat well, so its smooth with no lumps.
  3. Place into a 20cm cake tin and bake for 40-50mins at 180 degrees C.
  4. Serve when still slightly warm with sweetened creme fraiche or sour cream.
