About this recipe: This is my mother's recipe. I hadn't eaten a jam drop in so long, so it was fun to make them on the weekend.


Serves: 15 

  • 125g butter
  • ½ cup (125g) sugar
  • 1 cup (125g) plain flour
  • 1 cup (125g) self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon custard powder**
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
  • strawberry or raspberry jam
  • **custard powder substitute - mix 1 tbsp of conrflour and 1 tsp vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. In a medium bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the egg and mix well.
  2. Sift flours and custard powder together and add with the vanilla. Roll into balls and press lightly with a fork.Make a small depression with your finger, or the end of wooden spoon, in the top of each ball and add a little jam.
  3. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes until done.
