About this recipe: This apple strudel recipe is very simple to make, yummy and, best of all, inexpensive.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6

    • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
    • 4 granny smith apples
    • 1 cup (155g) brown sugar
    • 1 cup (160g) sultanas
    • 1 egg
    • ¼ cup (60ml) milk

    Directions
    Prep:30min  ›  Cook:35min  ›  Ready in:1hr5min

    1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Peel the apples, grate one with a cheese grater, using the biggest slats on the grater, and thinly slice the rest. Mix the apples, sultanas and sugar together and set aside.
    2. Roll the thawed pastry with a rolling pin slightly and place it on a greased baking tray. Spoon the apple mixture down the middle of the pastry lengthways, leaving a 4 cm gap at each end.
    3. Fold the pastry and seal the long and short edges by brushing them lightly with water an pressing together
    4. Beat the egg and milk together till thoroughly mixed then brush this on top of the pastry. Bake for 35-40 minutes.

Loved this! True to it's name...EASY! Only changes: Used 3 Granny Smith apples & added a few drops of lemon juice, 1/2C of pecans (no raisins) and sugared the pastry before adding the apples. Brushed pastry after it was rolled with melted butter and then sugar. Seems like a lot of sugar but the apples I used were pretty tart and needed it. (And we aren't hugh sweet eaters.) Mine have cooked in about 12-15 min...maybe it's just my oven, but I would watch to make sure not to burn bottoms. VERY, VERY GOOD & EASY.  -  17 Jul 2007  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

This recipe was nice and easy, which was key for me because I had to bake 40 of them for an Oktoberfest. I added some cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg to the apples and sugar, and sifted some powdered sugar on top for a very professional looking presentation.  -  05 Oct 2003  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

Excellent recipe and very easy. I added just a dash of cinnamon to the filling. Will definitely make this again. Thanks Jess.  -  22 Nov 2002  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
