Sweet potato porridge (Han zi muay)

This is a dish that many people would have memories of, if they went through the second world war. Rice was in short supply so sweet potatoes were eaten instead.

    North Region, Singapore
    1 person made this

    • 1 large sweet potato, skinned and cubed
    • ¾ cup rice
    • 1 big bowl of water

    1. Place all ingredients in a pot and allow it to cook under medium heat until the rice grains split open.
    2. Stir to prevent rice grains from sticking on the bottom of the pot. Adjust the amount of water added accordingly depending on how you like your porridge.
